As Sinara celebrate our 35th anniversary, we reflect on our journey and the pivotal moments and projects that have defined our growth. Established on June 16, 1989, by Phil Bain, Dennis Church, and Steve Dobb, Sinara has consistently delivered high-quality and practical software solutions, adapting to changing times in both the financial markets and information technology. Over the past three and a half decades, Sinara has designed, developed, and supported hundreds of software systems for clients worldwide, establishing itself as a trusted specialist solutions provider for the industry.
Quality in Practice
Sinara was founded with a vision of delivering software engineering excellence with pragmatism, with a focus on creating software that not only met but exceeded the needs of its clients. Our early years were marked by a series of projects for financial industry clients that set the stage for our future success, showcasing our ability to deliver high-quality, reliable systems for mission-critical operations.
Success Over the Decades
In 1992, we secured our first office and welcomed our first permanent employee in 1993, enhancing our engineering team. By 1994, we had already specialised in financial market data and connectivity, laying the groundwork for future growth.
We ventured into a range of innovative projects in 1995, including early smart card systems. In 1997, our client base expanded significantly, and by 1999, we had added a product base and leveraged the Internet boom, designing auction software and financial alerting systems.
The new millennium saw us capitalise on the dot-com boom, developing bespoke software and market data products. Despite the dot-com bust that followed, we remained stable, moving our office to the Blue Building in Bermondsey in 2002.
In 2007, we acquired our larger permanent offices near Tower Bridge. We expanded mobile app APIs for our market data platform and integrated consolidated tape functionality in response to the EU’s MiFID in 2009. Despite the global financial crash, we remained profitable, integrating new exchanges into our platform and delivering large-scale market data distribution for user communities in Europe and Asia. We delivered diverse systems in 2012, including new smartphone apps for derivatives prices. From 2015, we continued to tackle complex projects, including processing metal futures delivery dates and launching an electronic auction site for precious metals.
In 2016, we initiated significant projects in the derivatives trading space, leveraging our market data experience into other areas of the trading ecosystem, including the front-office and post-trade, as well as enhancing our client support infrastructure. The implementation of MiFID II and GDPR in 2018 kept us busy with compliance and new projects.
In 2019, we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a staff trip to Paris, and continued developing new systems and products for trading and clearing operations. Despite Covid-19 and lockdowns in 2020, we pressed ahead with a range of client projects and invested in SinaraTLC, a foundation for Sinara’s future, bringing together our industry experience with the latest cloud technology. The 2020s have seen Sinara deliver sustained growth, with the company expanding with ever-larger scale exchange and broker projects based on SinaraTLC. Throughout all our work, we have stuck to our original guiding principles of integrity, professionalism, and seeing projects through.
